Yankees’ Aaron Boone drops ‘thought bubbles’ admission before trade deadline

The New York Yankees are a legitimate contender in the American League once again. However, the Yankees would benefit from some roster upgrades ahead of the upcoming MLB trade deadline. On Wednesday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was asked how often he is staying in contact with general manager Brian Cashman and the front office ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

“Yeah, I am. I usually talk to Cash (Cashman) most days,” Boone said, via YES Network. “Texting with different front office guys. Sending my little thought bubbles to them here and there. Yeah, I am in contact with them.”

New York is 7-3 over its past 10 games. The ball club has gone 4-1 over its past five games. Has the Yankees’ recent success changed Boone’s “thoughts bubbles” ahead of the trade deadline? The manager was asked that question as well on Wednesday.

“I don’t know, I mean, not so much. At the end of the day, the front office has been working hard at this for certainly weeks, but it’s even years in the making where you’re… evaluating other organizations and evaluating your own organization. So you’re prepared to move when something potentially comes up.

“They’re all down there ready to do their thing. If something presents itself then you strike. So, we will see.”

The Yankees are a potential suitor for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Even if the Yankees do not acquire Skubal, there are a number of other trade candidates they could look to add before the deadline. The ball club would benefit from acquiring another starter, but their most pressing needs are in the lineup and the bullpen.
