How long Ryan Day allowed Ohio State to celebrate after Ball State win

The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes looked like a true No. 1-ranked program on Saturday’s Week 1 opener after shutting down the Ball State Cardinals 56-3. After a big win like that, the Buckeyes certainly deserve a little celebration. But Ryan Day revealed that he’s not allowing his team to celebrate too long.

15 whole minutes is what Day claims he gave his team to celebrate the victory over Ball State, according to Dillon Davis of the Delaware Gazette. The 47-year-old head coach said he wants his guys to quickly shift their attention to Week 2, as Ohio State will take on a much more competitive opponent in the No. 5 Texas Longhorns.

“Yeah, obviously a great opponent,” Day said about Texas. “They have really good talent across the board. So, going down there is something that we obviously been working towards all summer. Looking forward to [it]. [The Longhorns] have a great program and a great team. So, it’s gonna be a great environment, but this is what we’re gonna have to do this year with our schedule. We have to be able to go on the road and win games like this.”

The Week 1 win over Ball State was basically a preseason game for Ohio State. With a nice win under their belt, the Buckeyes can carry this moment into Week 2 for a substantially bigger matchup against Texas. It will be the program’s first of four tough road games this year, as they will play against ranked opponents Iowa, Indiana, and USC on the road in the 2026-27 season.
