While LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin has arrived for his debut against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night, there could be a chance that the contest is delayed due to weather. As there’s no denying that there’s drama surrounding the LSU football team and Kiffin, the sports world was waiting to see the first game with the controversial coach in a Tigers visor, though lightning could be the reason a delay occurs.

As pointed out by Bryan Fischer at Sports Illustrated, the game is currently on a “lightning delay,” as the Tiger Stadium screen says in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

UPDATE: The kickoff of the contest between the two Tigers teams has been moved from 7:30 P.M. (EST) to 7:49 P.M. (EST), according to Wilson Alexander of On3 Sports.

“Pregame warmups can’t start yet for LSU-Clemson because of lightning in the area. Security just cleared the field, with kickoff supposed to be at 6:49 CT,” Alexander wrote on X.

All eyes on Lane Kiffin and LSU football in 2026

With Kiffin’s debut looking to be delayed by a span of minutes, there’s no denying that the news cycle in college football has focused on the coach and the LSU football team ever since his shaky exit from the Ole Miss Rebels to the Tigers.

The most recent story was the Tigers looking to add players such as tight end Dae’Quan Wright and defensive lineman Zxavian Harris, though they’ve been on NFL rosters.

Though a court ruling granted a year of eligibility for Wright and Harris, the SEC has made efforts to prevent LSU from officially adding them, as they have not been added to the Tigers’ roster ahead of Saturday’s game. It remains to be seen how the situation progresses, as all eyes will be on Kiffin and LSU in 2026.
