Hearts vs Falkirk predictions
At the start of a new week, there is a tinge of disappointment around Heart of Midlothian.
That is understandable. Hearts went into the weekend three points clear of Celtic with three games remaining.
But a 1-1 draw with Motherwell, together with Celtic’s 3-1 victory over Rangers, has narrowed the gap between the top two to one point.
Because they meet on the final day, both teams have their fate in their own hands. Hearts have a one-point lead, a superior goal difference and an easier match in the penultimate round of fixtures. But Celtic will have home advantage in that potentially decisive encounter on Saturday.
The bookies have Celtic down as odds-on favourites, despite the fact they are second with less than a week of the campaign remaining.
Yet Hearts are not about to give up on their dream. They were the better team in a 1-1 draw with Motherwell on Saturday, a result which extended their unbeaten run to six matches.
Hearts had won three in a row before their trip to Fir Park. Motherwell host Celtic on Wednesday, and there is no guarantee the Hoops will come out on top.
There is even a scenario in which the Jambos win the title in midweek. If Celtic were to lose to Motherwell, a Hearts victory over Falkirk would seal the deal.
It is essential that Derek McInnes’ men take care of their own business regardless of how Celtic get on. At the very least, a win against Falkirk would make a draw on Sunday enough for Hearts to win the league.
Needless to say, McInnes and his players would have settled for being in this position when the season began.
Hearts vs Falkirk betting tips
Hearts will attempt to return to winning ways when Falkirk head to the Scottish capital on Wednesday.
Hearts to triumph
Motherwell have taken points off Rangers and Hearts of late, so Celtic cannot take anything for granted on Wednesday.
Hearts cannot either, of course, but a home game against Falkirk is perhaps the kindest assignment they could have right now.
Falkirk are on course to finish sixth, or bottom of the Championship group following last month’s customary split in Scotland’s top flight.
The visitors to Edinburgh will aim to make life difficult for Hearts, who will need to remain patient against a low block. We do not expect a glut of goals, but the hosts should find a way to victory.

Hosts will come on strong
Hearts pushed hard for a winning goal in the second half against Motherwell on Saturday, but it was not to be.
McInnes’ charges tend to come on strong after the break, a trait they have demonstrated for much of the season.
Hearts rank a lowly fifth in the first-half table this term, but they have by far the strongest record in the Premiership in the second period of matches.
Hearts have won 20 out of 36 second halves, at least three more than any other side. They should come on strong as this encounter wears on.

Hearts look to defence
Five points adrift of Hibernian in fifth, Falkirk are not yet destined to end the campaign in sixth spot.
However, with only two matches remaining it looks like John McGlynn’s men will stay where they are.
Falkirk have lost three of their last four games in the Premiership, but they have scored in nine of their last 10 contests in all competitions.
However, Hearts will back themselves to keep a clean sheet on home turf, just as they did when Falkirk last visited Tynecastle Park.
