Hawks’ Zaccharie Risacher getting DNP-CD as 21st birthday present a bad sign for playoffs

The Atlanta Hawks got a taste of what the playoffs could feel like when they faced the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it was also a sneak peek at what the rotation could look like. There was one surprise, and it was Zaccharie Risacher getting the first DNP-CD of his career on his 21st birthday.

It’s hard to say that it was a surprise that he didn’t, especially when seeing he only played seven minutes against the New York Knicks, another potential playoff matchup for the Hawks.

Following that game, Quin Snyder was asked about Risacher and why he didn’t play that much.

“We only have so many guys that we can actually put in the game, and in certain situations we’re playing Nickeil [Alexander-Walker] and Dyson [Daniels] and those guys more minutes, so people just get squeezed. JK [Kuminga] played a little more, so those minutes come from somewhere,” Snyder said.

“So, it’s not anything about one player,” Snyder continued. “That’s just the game … I think we’re past the point where we’re looking at individual players trying to dissect whether they should be playing more or less.”

Nonetheless, Snyder said that Risacher has been doing good things for the Hawks when he’s on the court.

“We need him to keep doing the things that he’s been doing,” Snyder said. “I mean, he’s great. He’s been crashing the glass. Those are big plays for us.”

Against the Cavs, Risacher’s minutes were given to Corey Kispert, which led to him sitting on the bench for the entire game. With the Hawks getting a rematch against the Cavs, there’s a good chance that Risacher could get another DNP-CD, unless Snyder wants to try something different in this matchup.

The reality of the situation is that Risacher hasn’t played much – or not at all – against two teams the Hawks could potentially see in the playoffs.
