Ha-Seong Kim walks off Dodgers with first hit since June

The Atlanta Braves took advantage of the Los Angeles Dodgers pulling Roki Sasaki Wednesday. Atlanta engaged in a back-and-forth with the defending World Series champs. Until Ha-Seong Kim walked off the Dodgers.

Plus ended a personal hit-less streak that started in June. 

Tied 5-5 with two runners on second and first base, Kim ripped through a Tanner Scott fastball that scored the wining run 6-5 at home.

Kim watched three pitches land outside of the strike zone to put together a three-ball, zero-strike count. But Scott forced a strike looking swing on pitch No. 4 in that sequence. Kim later pounded three straight foul balls.

So Kim faced a full count with the game on the line. But he powered through the 97 miles per hour fastball to clinch the victory.

Kim lifted the Braves’ record at home to 44-23. Atlanta also raised its record to 78-55, which now has the National League East leader at least 2.5 games behind the Dodgers in the NL race, but remain four games behind the current NL leading Milwaukee Brewers. Manager Walt Weiss has helped put together five wins in the last five games for the Braves.

Matt Olson set the tone against the right-handed Sasaki, powering through his fastball on a solo home run blast that topped at 400 feet. Sasaki needed to leave the game early because of a blister discovery on his right hand.

Sean Murphy pounded one more homer for the victors, ripping through an 87 mph cutter via Dodgers relief pitcher Eric Lauer that made it 5-3. Los Angeles ultimately tied things up at 5-5 in scoring two runs during the top of the seventh. But Kim got the Braves’ dugout to clear out in euphoria before facing extra innings.
