Why Eagles’ Vic Fangio isn’t worried about Jalen Hurts’ training camp interceptions

The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for their preseason finale against the Cincinnati Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field on Friday. The Eagles are looking to head into the new season on a positive note after dropping their first two preseason outings against the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots.

Philadelphia ended its training camp on Wednesday, leaving quarterback Jalen Hurts feeling good about their offseason. While he is still adjusting to the system of new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, Hurts should be more than ready by Week 1.

There have been concerns about the frequent interceptions thrown by Hurts in training camp. He had at least five in their two-day joint practice with the Patriots last week.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, however, is not the least bit worried about the former Super Bowl MVP.

“He’s learning a new offense. I think he’s trying things, seeing what’s available and what isn’t available. So I don’t think that’s gonna carry over,” said Fangio, as quoted by Eagles reporter Anthony DiBona.

Philadelphia hired Mannion, prying him away from the Green Bay Packers, to inject fresh ideas, strategic vision, and a modern scheme into an offense that has grown staid in recent years.

Hurts, for his part, is aiming to move on after failing to defend their title last season. There will be birth pains with Mannion, but the talented signal-caller will likely figure things out sooner rather than later.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano predicted a bounce-back season for Hurts and the Eagles, stating that they are “too good to flop completely.”
