Guardians’ Stephen Vogt provides crucial Chase DeLauter injury update

The Cleveland Guardians earned a doubleheader sweep over the Detroit Tigers on Friday, winning the games 7-6 and 4-3. Both contests were extremely competitive and ended with walk-off hits. However, outfielder Chase DeLauter suffered an injury scare and he is dealing with a sore wrist. Although DeLauter is not playing on Saturday against the Tigers, Cleveland is hopeful that he won’t have to miss too much time.

“(Stephen) Vogt said DeLauter is feeling better today, but his wrist is still sore and stiff. Hope remains it’s a day to day thing,” Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reported before the game.

DeLauter has been one of the better rookies in baseball this season. While he likely won’t win the American League Rookie of the Year Award — the Tigers’ Kevin McGonigle and the Guardians’ Parker Messick are currently among the frontrunners — DeLauter has made a significant impact for the Guards.

The 24-year-old outfielder is hitting .294/.365/.458 to go along with 13 home runs, 28 doubles and 10 stolen bases. The Guardians’ lineup has uncertainty, so it would be a brutal blow if DeLauter were to land on the injured list. For now, the Guardians are hoping DeLauter can return within the next few days.
