Golden Knights’ Shea Theodore joins ‘active’ list after Game 1 goal

The Vegas Golden Knights did not have the best start to the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. However, they have since brought things back in a major way. Shea Theodore scored to put his team on the board. And they even briefly took a lead against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Vegas did not retain the lead for long. However, their comeback in this contest is certainly respectable. Theodore, Ivan Barbashev, and William Karlsson scored to give their team life in the Final. For Theodore, his goal put him in a rather exclusive club.

Theodore is the fourth active defenseman in the NHL with 10 or more points in the Stanley Cup Final, according to NHL Public Relations. Victor Hedman, Mattias Ekholm, and Evan Bouchard are the other defensemen to reach this mark among active defenders.

Additionally, Theodore has a history of producing in the opening game of the Stanley Cup Final. The Golden Knights rearguard has tied Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point for the most points in an opening Cup Final game among active skaters in the league.

Vegas had the lead in the second period but eventually relinquished it. Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes to tie Game 1 at 3-3. Both teams battled for the go-ahead goal before the end of the second period. However, neither were able to claim the lead before the end of the middle frame.

The Hurricanes and Golden Knights are playing for all the marbles. So far, this Stanley Cup Final has lived up to the hype. And Game 1 is set for a thrilling conclusion.
