Hawks’ Jalen Johnson posts IG Story, but it’s not a reaction to diss from Jonathan Kuminga’s silly agent
Recently, former Atlanta Hawks wing Jonathan Kuminga’s agent Aaron Turner made headlines when he falsely stated that Kuminga was the best player on the team during his brief stint in Atlanta last year. The quote came just days after Kuminga signed a reported deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves in free agency, marking his third team in about eight months.
The actual best player on the Hawks last season was Jalen Johnson, who took to his Instagram story on Tuesday, but instead of responding to Turner’s slight, he reposted a graphic from FIBA shouting out a big game from teammates Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Lu Dort, who both had big games for Team Canada earlier this week.
Clearly, Johnson isn’t too concerned about the diss from Kuminga’s agent, who bizarrely decided now would be a perfect time to go on a press tour after fumbling his client potentially tens of millions of dollars based on their handling of Kuminga’s contract situation, dating back to his tumultuous tenure in Golden State.
While Kuminga did have some strong moments with the Hawks, ultimately, his elite athleticism and size were repeatedly offset by shooting woes and an inability to handle the basketball, allowing him to keep both teams in the game simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Johnson’s series against the New York Knicks proved that he still has a long way to go in order to become a true number one option in a playoff setting, but Hawks fans can hardly complain after the All-NBA forward took the reins from Trae Young last year and promptly led Atlanta on an epic surge down the stretch of the season after the star was traded.
In any case, the Hawks are slated to kick off their new season in just under two months.
