Giannis Antetokounmpo insists ‘100%’ he could still remain with Bucks despite beef
The strange and tired saga between Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks continued this week with new reporting about an alleged beef between the two sides regarding Antetokounmpo’s desire to return to play this year. The Bucks understandably want to keep their star player sidelined with the playoffs fully out of the picture, and it’s just the latest chapter in a relationship that seems like it should have ended in February, if not earlier.
Still, Antetokounmpo says he “100 percent” could see a path to him staying with the Bucks long-term.
“As long as it’s great organized basketball and a team that’s willing to play selfless basketball, and chase some goal that’s bigger than themselves, I’ll be here. Do you see that with the Bucks? You’ve been around, what 10 years? You tell me what you see,” said Antetokounmpo, per Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Antetokounmpo was also asked if he might use his influence to affect coaching or management changes.
“I will never, ever be in a position to affect somebody’s life. I can’t do it. My heart doesn’t go to that. Sometimes I say my opinion. But I would never push the button,” he said.
The Bucks are not exactly playing “great, organized basketball” as Giannis described as of late, currently heading for the NBA Draft lottery, although they will be getting the lesser pick of their own and that of the New Orleans Pelicans thanks to a remnant of the Jrue Holiday trade several years ago.
Without many obvious prospects to get better anytime soon, it would appear to be in everyone’s best interest for the Bucks and their star to finally part ways, but it seems that the two sides themselves are the only ones who have yet to reach that conclusion.
