George Pickens minicamp watch is on, and Cowboys insider gives latest update
The Dallas Cowboys are in a delicate situation with George Pickens. Pickens is in a contract standoff with Dallas after an incredible 2025 campaign where he posted multiple career bests. He is expected to get one step closer to stepping onto the practice field later this week.
Cowboys insider Clarence Hill reported on Monday that Pickens plans to attend mandatory minicamp, which beings on June 16th.
This is somewhat big news for Dallas, as Pickens has not been participating in the team’s voluntary offseason practices. But now he will finally make an appearance before training camp.
The Cowboys gave Pickens the franchise tag, rewarding him with a one-year, $27.3 million guaranteed contract in 2026. Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said the team expected him to attend voluntary work this offseason after signing his franchise tag. Clearly that did not happen.
But Cowboys fans should not get too excited just because Pickens will be in the building.
QB Dak Prescott told The Athletic’s Jon Machota in a recent interview that Pickens may not do much on the practice field this week.
“They don’t want him to do too much and then suddenly suffer a setback or some type of injury. If that happens, he could go into training camp with an issue. So, even if he’s there next week, don’t expect him to be doing a ton,” Prescott said.
Pickens dealt with a minor hamstring strain as well as knee and calf injuries during the 2025 season. None of those injuries look like major problems, but it is smart for Dallas to exercise caution.
It will be interesting to see how involved Pickens is at minicamp later this week.
