Fever’s Caitlin Clark shuts down injury concern after season opener
The Indiana Fever ended up losing their WNBA season-opener against the Dallas Wings 107-104 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. However, for most fans, the central concern will not be the loss, but the fact that their star player exited the game twice during the second half to take treatment.
Clark missed the majority of last season due to multiple injuries, but has not picked up a new one in the first game of the WNBA season, per a post on X by Chloe Peterson. Clark claimed that she exited the game to get her back adjusted and that there was no new injury concern.
“Caitlin Clark says her quick trips to the tunnel during the game were just “getting my back adjusted.” Says it can get out of line pretty quickly, but “other than that, I feel great,”” Peterson wrote on X.
Clark returned to the game both times and finished with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds in 31 minutes in what was her first regular-season WNBA game since July 15 last year. CC was limited to 13 games because of a series of lower-body injuries involving both groins, her left quad and her ankle last season.
Despite a shaky first half that included no made 3-pointers and two offensive fouls, Clark erupted in the third quarter. She doubled her scoring total within the first four minutes of the second half by knocking down two deep 3-pointers and also delivered a behind-the-back assist to Myisha Hines-Allen.
Clark ultimately finished 7-for-18 from the field and 2-for-9 from beyond the arc. However, Dallas’ offensive execution ultimately decided the game. The Wings shot 59.1% from the field and 52.2% from 3-point range.
Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with 22 points, while Paige Bueckers and former Fever guard Odyssey Sims each added 20. Kelsey Mitchell scored a game-high 30 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter during the Fever’s comeback attempts, while Aliyah Boston added 23 points.
