Falcons’ Zachariah Branch reveals Cash Jones position change at rookie minicamp

Zachariah Branch and Cash Jones spent a year together at the University of Georgia and are both preparing for their rookie campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, but their bond could get even stronger following the latest development. Evidently, these two speedsters will be playing the same position moving forward.

Branch revealed at rookie minicamp that Jones is transitioning to wide receiver, per ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.

The former Bulldogs running back was participating in drills with the WR group, which raised curiosity. Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski obviously believes Jones has the skills to be a productive slot guy in this league.

It remains to be seen how this process unfolds, or if the undrafted prospect even makes the roster, but many Georgia fans definitely support the change. They only wish HC Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo carried out such a plan last year.

Jones was in Athens for two national championships (redshirted during the first one) and maintained a complimentary role on the squad through his strong work ethic and intriguing versatility. He totaled 57 receptions for 573 yards and six touchdowns in 55 games with Georgia. The 5-foot-11 native of Brock, Texas reportedly ran a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash, so WR seems like a natural fit.

Even if he is unable to earn consistent reps in a pass-catching group that includes Drake London, Zachariah Branch, Olamide Zaccheaus and tight end Kyle Pitts, Cash Jones could still find work on special teams as a kick and punt returner.

The Falcons clearly see something in him, otherwise they would not waste time with this conversion project.
