ESPN adds former Knicks hero to NBA Finals crew

When the NBA Finals commence this week between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, Knicks fans are going to see a familiar face as part of the ESPN broadcast crew. It was announced on Tuesday that former Knick Jeremy Lin would be joining ESPN’s broadcast team of the NBA Finals, serving as a studio analyst.

Jeremy Lin’s duties will include appearing on ESPN’s famed ‘Sports Center’ alongside Scott Van Pelt in the aftermath of Game 1, as well as making appearances as part of ‘NBA Today’ and other related media segments.

While the Knicks never were contenders like this when Lin played for the team, his stretch of games during the 2011-12 season was enough to capture the hearts of Knicks fans forever. The phenomenon known as ‘Linsanity,’ was only for about one month until the team fired head coach Mike D’Antoni. Following Mike Woodson taking over as coach, Lin didn’t receive as many opportunities and was ultimately shut down before the playoffs with a knee injury.

That season, Lin appeared in a total of 35 games for the Knicks, including 26 starts, at a little over 26 minutes per game. He averaged 14.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.6 steals with splits of 44.6 percent shooting from the field, 32 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 79.8 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Lin would only play one season for the Knicks as during the offseason he signed an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets that the Knicks would not match. But in the pantheon of team history, the fanbase will always remember the good feeling that Lin’s run brought at a time the franchise needed a feel-good story.
