We are squarely in the era of Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship on Sunday and in the process did so for the second time in his career. Scheffler has now won two out of three, by the way.

There are now only three players who have won multiple FedExCup titles in their careers as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are the others.

Obviously the glory days of Tiger are in the rearview mirror, and as silly as it sounds to say about the defending Masters Champion twice over… Rory McIlroy’s seat atop the throne has been impacted by Scottie’s presence over the last handful of years.

There is no question that Rory and Scottie are separated from the current field of professional golf, but right now Scottie has even a bit of a lead over his European counterpart. Scottie is sitting on 22 career wins and is barely 30 years old. Rory isn’t going anywhere any time soon, but it feels like Scottie is starting to put distance between them.

Amazingly, Scottie now sits atop the PGA Tour’s Career Money List as he is nestled in at $130.4M. Tiger is in second just south of $121M, and Rory is so poorly, all kidding aside, at third with $119.6M.

Soon enough Rory will also pass Tiger, but that Scottie has passed Rory so quickly really speaks to the history that we have been watching for a half decade now. Consider that Scottie just pulled this off in what was a “down” season for him, one where he won three times, was a runner-up five times, had 13 top-5 finishes, and made 19 cuts.

We are fully in his time now, and it is simply a matter of figuring out where and for how long this all goes.
