Raiders release 2024 fourth-round pick after claiming 49ers CB

Teams cut down to 53-man rosters on Sunday, leading to a rash of new players on the waiver wire. The San Francisco 49ers recently waived Darrell Luter, and the Las Vegas Raiders have now claimed him.

Now, the Raiders have made room on the roster for Luter by releasing a former fourth-round pick, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“The Las Vegas Raiders released cornerback Decamerion Richardson,” Schefter posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Richardson played at Mississippi State from 2020 through 2023. He initially entered the transfer portal and committed to Ole Miss, but instead decided to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. He was the 112th overall selection of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Raiders. He played in 12 games, starting seven in his rookie season. That year, he had 46 tackles with a tackle for a loss and three pass breakups. Still, his playing time decreased in 2025. He played in 15 games, but did not make a start, coming away with just 11 tackles.

Richardson is known as a solid athlete, running a 4.34 40-yard dash. The Raiders are likely hoping he clears waivers so that he can be added to the practice squad.

The Raiders have a new look this season. Klint Kubiak is the new head coach for the team, after spending the 2025 season as the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks in 2025. He replaces Pete Carroll, leading to some roster turnover.

Meanwhile, the Raiders have a new starting quarterback, as Kirk Cousins is expected to start over Fernando Mendoza. The Raiders open their season on September 13 against the Miami Dolphins.
