Dwyane Wade makes surprise appearance at ex-teammate’s camp
Seven years after retiring from the NBA, Dwyane Wade continues to be involved in basketball. He is a global ambassador of the league and serves as an analyst for Prime.
Wade recently lauded the New York Knicks for their inspired run in the playoffs, saying they deserved to win the title. He knew exactly what the Knicks felt like after reaching the mountaintop, having won three rings with the Miami Heat.
But before taking the NBA by storm, the Hall of Famer earned his keep at Marquette, leading the school to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament in 2003, ending a 26-year drought.
He formed a formidable backcourt at Marquette with Travis Diener, who also played in the NBA. Diener now develops young athletes in Wisconsin, and Wade visited his ex-teammate’s basketball camp for girls, much to the surprise of the participants.
“You need to be selfish with your preparation. But you do not be selfish with your performance,” said Wade in his speech, as reported by TMJ4’s Karley Marotta
“Our group from 20 years ago has stayed relatively close, but winning breeds that, and there’s a reason we won, and that’s because of our togetherness,” stated Diener.

Wade, who grew up in a rough neighborhood in Chicago, stressed the importance of mentorship. He said it was easy for him to agree to Diener’s request as a form of paying it forward.
“I wouldn’t be in the position that I am in today without so many people along the way who just helped nurture all the things they saw inside of me,” acknowledged the 13-time All-Star, who also played for the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I think it’s our duty as well to give those things back. You don’t go through it just for yourself.”
Diener, a two-time All-Conference USA First Team member, played six years in the NBA, suiting up for the Orlando Magic, the Indiana Pacers, and the Portland Trail Blazers.
After the NBA, he played for 10 years in Italy, winning two Italian Cup titles and an MVP trophy.
