Packers news: Keisean Nixon repeats himself 3 times on contract questions
Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon avoided discussing his contract situation during his first media availability of training camp. Nixon was asked about his deal three separate times and directed all contract-related questions to his agent, Tory Dandy, and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.
Nixon did clarify that his absence from the team’s first training camp practice was not related to his contract. After passing his physical upon arrival, Nixon woke up Wednesday with hamstring tightness, and the team recommended that he get the issue examined, so he did. He returned to practice Thursday.
The 29-year-old cornerback is entering the final season of his three-year, $18 million contract and is set to earn a $4.3 million base salary in 2026. His $6 million average annual salary ranks 41st among NFL cornerbacks, according to Spotrac.
Nixon’s focus remains on improving after a career path that has taken him from a minimum-salary special teams player in 2022 to an All-Pro kick returner, nickel cornerback and the Packers’ top cornerback. He started all 18 games last season, including playoffs, and earned an NFC Pro Bowl alternate selection.
During the 2025 season, Nixon recorded 78 tackles, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, a career-high 17 pass breakups and one interception. The interception came in the Packers’ 28-21 win over the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field on Dec. 7, when Nixon secured the victory with a game-clinching end-zone pick. Pro Football Focus gave him a 66.4 overall grade, ranking him 41st among 114 graded cornerbacks.
Nixon is also working to improve after his first full season playing outside cornerback. Though he finished tied for sixth in the NFL with 17 pass defenses, Nixon recorded 11 penalties, the second-most among defensive backs.
With Nixon returning to practice, he and Carrington Valentine resumed their roles as starting cornerbacks. The duo is also adjusting to new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s system after previously playing under Jeff Hafley.
