talkSPORT tips – Best bets and expert advice on Day 4 at Goodwood
The excitement continues as we head into Friday and both Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Festival are on the agenda once again.
That means we’re sure to have plenty to keep us entertained and we’re set for another excellent day of racing action.
Goodwood’s feature race is the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes and last year’s winner Jm Jungle is among the field, while Aussie raider Asfoora will bid to get back on track, so you won’t want to miss it, or the other seven races across the card on the South Downs.
Our expert has selected three tips for Friday’s Goodwood card and among them is a Charlie Appleby runner who should prove hard to beat, now dropped in grade.

2.25 Goodwood – Talk Of New York – 8/13
Charlie Appleby had a fairly low-key start to the campaign, with no winners at Royal Ascot, but it’s this time of year in which we usually see the best of him. TALK OF NEW YORK was one of his Royal Ascot representatives who ran well and should be hard to beat here.
The son of Wootton Bassett bolted up on debut at Kempton back in October and went on to win a conditions race at Newmarket, before scoring by five-and-a-half lengths in a Listed contest at Sandown on his penultimate start, with a Group 3 winner back in second.
He lost nothing in defeat when third behind Bow Echo and Gstaad in the St James’s Palace Stakes, as they are both exceptional three-year-olds. Connections have dropped him in grade here and if producing a similar effort, a return to winning ways is anticipated.
3.35 Goodwood – Rumstar – 9/2
A smart field has been assembled for the day’s feature race and there are three Group 1 winners amongst them. Jonathan Portman runs the very useful RUMSTAR here and the six-year-old has run very well in two of his three starts so far this season.
His best form has come over 5f and he has managed to win the Group 3 Coral Charge Stakes for the last two years. Keeping on well to win at Sandown last time out, he kept on well in the closing stages to score by a length and the third boosted the form next time.
Things didn’t quite go to plan in the King Charles III Stakes and he failed to fire for whatever reason, but he left that performance well behind when winning last time. He’s closely matched with Night Raider on the form of their Newmarket run and he won’t be far away.
5.55 Goodwood – Room Fourteen – 9/4
There’s a decent prize on offer for this competitive-looking 1m2f handicap and the fact that James Fanshawe has booked Ryan Moore for the ride on ROOM FOURTEEN.
She looked pretty average as a two-year-old, but has improved with every run since making the switch to handicaps this term. The daughter of Without Parole was a narrow winner on handicap debut at Yarmouth in April, before finishing second at Ascot.
Fanshawe’s filly returned to winning ways with another narrow success at Redcar last month and she defied a 4lb rise to score comfortably at Doncaster last time out. The handicapper has responded with a 6lb rise, but she could still have something in hand.
