Jets break silence on Terrion Arnold interest after Lions release due to arrest

The New York Jets are not denying their interest in a cornerback currently facing serious felony charges, though they are downplaying just how far that interest goes. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed the team reached out about Terrion Arnold after the Detroit Lions released him last month, characterizing the inquiry as routine.

“Due diligence,” Glenn said, comparing it to the team’s earlier flirtation with Russell Wilson back in the spring.

The Lions cut Arnold on June 29, five days after he turned himself in on eight felony charges, four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, in Hillsborough County, Florida. Prosecutors allege Arnold orchestrated the abduction and interrogation of three men, including his personal driver, whom he believed had stolen more than $250,000 worth of his belongings from an Airbnb in February.

A judge set his bond at $1 million and ordered him confined to his Tallahassee home except when training, playing, or attending court, while denying a separate request that he wear a GPS monitor.

Arnold’s connection to Glenn dates back to his rookie season, when Glenn served as Detroit’s defensive coordinator before taking over as the Jets’ head coach in 2025. His agent, Nicole Lynn, testified in a Florida court hearing that four teams, the Jets, Colts, Seahawks, and Texans, contacted her within 24 hours of Arnold clearing waivers. Reports have since indicated Seattle is no longer pursuing him.

Arnold has denied any involvement in the incident through his attorney, maintaining his innocence and pointing to what his legal team describes as unreliable testimony from co-defendants seeking reduced sentences.

He was a first-round pick out of Alabama in 2024 and started 30 games across two seasons in Detroit before his release.

For now, Glenn’s comments suggest the Jets’ interest remains preliminary rather than a serious pursuit, especially with Arnold still awaiting trial on charges that carry the possibility of life in prison.

Any team that eventually signs him will have to weigh that legal uncertainty against a defensive back many evaluators still view as a legitimate NFL talent.
