MLB rumors: Dodgers still named likely Tarik Skubal destination over Rays, Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers can’t just be counted out in the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes amid the rapidly approaching MLB trade deadline.

The Detroit Tigers ace is clearly the biggest name in the trade rumor mill, and the Dodgers appear to be a team that can find a way to land the two-time American League Cy Young Award winner despite already being the top favorites to win another World Series title.

On Wednesday, baseball insider Jon Morosi of the MLB Network was asked if Skubal would land with the Tampa Bay Rays or Milwaukee Brewers, and he responded by bringing up the Dodgers.

“I think the Dodgers are still the team that has the best chance to get them. There’s enough uncertainty right now with the Dodgers’ rotation: how many more starts is Shohei [Ohtani] going to make?

I think of those three teams that you mentioned, the Dodgers have the most proven track record in making trades like this, and here’s the key thing: they have so many talented young outfielders; there are some that like [Eduardo Quintero] and [Mike Sirota] as much as we hear a lot about Josue De Paula.”

However, Morosi implied that the Brewers, who are in a neck-and-neck race for the best record in baseball, are a team to watch out for.

“There is so much talent in this Dodgers organization right now. They’re the most equipped to do it. They tend to make trades like this. Although I’ll say this, the Brewers have, I believe, a ton of depth there. [Luis Peña] could be one name that’s in play as a prospect, and [Josh Adamczewski], as well someone’s got a really unique hit tool. Keep an eye on that name as well.”

The rich can always get richer in baseball, and Skubal going to Los Angeles would be the epitome of that.
