Dream’s Angel Reese makes bold DPOY prediction after win vs. Mercury
The Atlanta Dream got a convincing win against the Phoenix Mercury as they continue their West Coast road trip, and it was Angel Reese who was the star of the show. Reese finished the game with a career-high 31 points, and added 14 rebounds, two assists and four steals.
She continues to show her impact on both sides of the ball, but her defense has probably stood out the most. It’s led the Dream to have one of the best defenses in the league, and it’s not just her doing the dirty work. Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada are one and two, respectively, in steals per game, and Reese is sitting at three. After the game against the Mercury, Reese made a bold prediction about the Defensive Player of the Year award.
“I think the Defensive Player of the Year is in Atlanta,” Reese said. “One through three. One of us. So, you can check the stats, too.”
It wouldn’t be a surprise if any of those three players were in the race at the end of the season, and as Reese said, the stats show they deserve to be in the conversation. Outside of steals, Reese is still a rebounding machine, and she’s close to breaking the single-season record.
Howard is arguably the best two-way player in the league, and she’s close to becoming the first player to ever finish the season with the most 3-pointers made and steals.
If the shots aren’t falling for the Dream on any given night, they know they can rely on their defense to keep them in the game. It’s a scary sight for teams when they’re clicking on all cylinders, and it’s why one of the better teams in the league this season.
With their win against the Mercury, they also clinched a playoff berth for the fourth year in a row.
