Brian Schottenheimer fired up over unprecedented moment in preseason beatdown of Cardinals

The Dallas Cowboys looked incredible during their latest preseason game. Dallas thumped Arizona 34-13 in a game that was decided in the first quarter. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was thrilled with his team’s performance after another tough week of training camp practices.

Schottenheimer was extremely excited during his postgame remarks to his team after Saturday’s win. He was especially fired up about one historic moment from the game.

“Things to clean up for sure, always is right, but the play style is right. And I’m proud of you guys for that,” Schottenheimer told his team in the locker room after the game. “But I saw something tonight that I’ve never seen before [in] 25 years in the NFL. An entire section cheering for one man, and that man’s going to break us down. Pete, get your a** in here.”

Schottenheimer was referring to Cowboys rookie offensive tackle Shiyazh Pete. The 23-year-old undrafted free agent out of Kentucky is the first Navajo player to sign with an NFL team. A large contingent from the Navajo Nation Reservation purchased seats in the lower bowl at State Farm Stadium to come show their support for Pete.

Pete delivered a memorable speech to his Cowboys teammates after the warm introduction from Schottenheimer.

“Well, that was an incredible win. And I am very fortunate to be amongst you and to play on the same field, wear the same star, hold it on our chest, and I’m proud of us,” Pete said. “I’m proud of how far we’ve come. Man, this game. Fate brought us here as strangers but this game, this star, this team will make us brothers.”

The Cowboys locker room erupted into cheers at the conclusion of Pete’s speech.

It will be fascinating to see if Pete can make the final roster in Dallas. If he does not make the 53-man roster, the Cowboys could always keep him around on the practice squad.

Next up for the Cowboys is their preseason finale against the Saints on August 28th.
