Draymond Green places Victor Wembanyama’s ECF Game 1among the all-time greats

On the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green sounded off on Victor Wembanyama’s Game 1 performance versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wembanyama guided the Spurs to a double-overtime victory, as he finished the game with 41 points, 24 rebounds, 3 blocks, and one steal.

Green gave Wembanyama his flowers for the performance and put his own context on what the moment meant, given Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP presentation.

“It has to be up there for top games because you have to put in context what’s actually happening. And what I mean by that is, this team, this young fella. Just went on the road vs the defending champions the night Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was presented his MVP award without their starting point guard and they went on the road, he did everything he had to do including hitting a bomb from no man’s land. He did everything he had to do to make sure they won that game.”

Green’s comments echoed ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who ranked Wembanyama’s Game 1 performance among the greatest on a list he iterated on during NBA Today.

“Victor Wembanyama. It was a game one, but my God, what a game. 41 points, 24 rebounds… Absolutely tremendous tour de force…I’m just gonna say, let’s see what happens in the rest of this series. Let’s see what happens potentially in the next series, but it could be reevaluated if it ends up being super pivotal.”

Wembanyama and the Spurs look to leave Oklahoma City up 2-0 on the defending champs. And, if the Spurs star has a similar performance to Monday night, that could become a reality.
