Giants rookie Bryce Eldridge accomplishes impressive feat not seen since 1959

The San Francisco Giants have endured a difficult season, but Bryce Eldridge continues to provide reasons for optimism. The rookie added another chapter Tuesday by reaching a home run benchmark no Giants player had touched in 67 years.

Eldridge launched his 14th homer of 2026 in the second inning vs. the Cleveland Guardians. The 21-year-old drove Foster Griffin’s 79.7 mph sweeper 405 feet to center field with an exit velocity of 104.1 mph.

The home run accounted for San Francisco’s only run in an 8-1 loss at Progressive Field. The defeat dropped the fourth-place Giants to 51-74 and 23.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, but the milestone from their rookie first baseman/designated hitter provided another encouraging development in an otherwise disappointing season.

Eldridge now has 14 home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .791 OPS across 291 at-bats this season. His production offers further evidence of the power that persuaded San Francisco to select him in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

MLB’s Sarah Langs added historical context to the home run Tuesday night on X, formerly Twitter. After sharing the Giants’ original highlight, Langs connected Eldridge’s accomplishment to franchise legend Orlando Cepeda.

Cepeda ultimately finished the 1959 season with 27 home runs, a .317 batting average, and 105 RBIs. His production established an imposing standard for young power hitters in Giants history.

Eldridge remains well short of Cepeda’s final total, but reaching 14 homers already separates him from every other Giants hitter age 21 or younger over the past 67 seasons.

That distinction gives San Francisco another meaningful development during a disappointing year. Eldridge cannot transform the standings alone, but his growing power continues strengthening his case to become a centerpiece of the Giants’ lineup for years to come.
