Donovan Mitchell dodges talk about a LeBron James Cavs return

Major changes may be about to come for a Cleveland Cavaliers team that’s just gotten themselves eliminated from championship contention on Monday night courtesy of a 130-93 thrashing from the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. It’s clear that they’re going to need more if they were to ever get over the hump, especially on the defensive end of the floor.

One of the possibilities for the Cavs is to, perhaps, call up a familiar name once more in LeBron James to have him write the perfect storybook ending to his illustrious Hall of Fame career. James is the undisputed franchise GOAT, and there would not be a better way for him to end his career than to lead the Cavs back to the promised land once more.

Nonetheless, Donovan Mitchell does not want to make any declarations regarding any potential move for the Cavs this offseason, as he dodged a question regarding a potential return to Cleveland for The King.

“That is not for me. I am not trying to get a headline. That’s a Koby Altman question, that’s a Mike Gansey question,” Mitchell said in his postgame presser, via Danny Cunningham of The Inside Shot.

James is certainly a possible add for the Cavs, with the franchise GOAT being a free agent come July. Cleveland could open up the space to bring James in, or perhaps the 41-year-old star could give them a hometown discount.

Nonetheless, Mitchell is not going to be the man to call the shots for the team regarding potential personnel decisions this offseason. This offseason is going to be a very pivotal one, as it’s not quite clear how much appetite there is from this front office to run it back considering how they’ve fallen in the playoffs for four consecutive years.
