Dodgers’ Tarik Skubal has perfect reaction to new nickname from Miguel Rojas
Tarik Skubal is settling into life with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and part of that transition now includes an unexpected new nickname: “Scooby Doo Pa Pa.” The two-time Cy Young winner has fully embraced the moniker handed to him by veteran infielder Miguel Rojas, and he couldn’t be happier about it.
Speaking to reporters after Saturday’s win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Skubal explained the origins of the playful nickname with a grin.
“It’s great. I think it’s funny, you know, lighthearted,” he told reporters after the game. “He’s really good at those types of things with everybody on the team. Everyone kind of has their own unique thing.”
Tarik Skubal is a fan of his new nickname “Scooby Doo Pa Pa” that Miguel Rojas and the Dodgers gave him:
“It’s funny, lighthearted… he’s a ton of fun to be teammates with. It came right to his mind when we were on the bus so it stuck.”

Skubal credited Rojas for setting the clubhouse tone, particularly among the starting pitchers. “He kind of orchestrates a dance thing before the guys go. He’s a ton of fun to be teammates with,” the 29-year-old said. “That was just the first thing that ever came to his mind at the time when we were on the bus, and it stuck. That guy can make really anything stick with this club.”
The nickname has taken on a life of its own. The Dodgers now play the song for each of Skubal’s strikeouts, and the clubhouse blasted “Scooby Doo Pa Pa” over the speakers before he even addressed the media.
“I got some video of my boys dancing to it before the game today, which I think is funny,” Skubal added.
The lighthearted moment came on the heels of Skubal’s finest outing in a Dodgers uniform. After a rough first inning against the Pirates in which he surrendered a 3-0 lead, the left-hander settled in dominantly, retiring 20 of his final 23 batters and striking out 11 over seven innings to earn his first win as a Dodger.
It was a breakout performance that justified the blockbuster deadline deal that brought him from Detroit, and it came in a 4-3 comeback victory that extended Los Angeles’ winning streak to five games. With his new nickname echoing through the clubhouse and his best stuff finally on display, Skubal appears to be feeling right at home.
For a Dodgers team chasing another title, a locked-in, loosened-up Skubal is a frightening proposition.
