Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is MLB’s ‘GOAT’, Freddie Freeman declares

The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best records in the majors this year. Shohei Ohtani struggled to start the year, leading to him taking an off day. Since then, Ohtani has been dominant, going 24-60 at the plate with ten extra base hits.

Now, his teammate, Freddie Freeman, is giving Ohtani another title: GOAT, per Fredo Cervantes of The Sporting Tribune.

“When you have the greatest player of all time playing this game on your team, and he’s hot like he is right now, it’s fun to watch, fun to be a part of,” Freeman said.

Ohtani is hitting .293 on the year with a .311 on-base percentage. He has ten home runs and 33 RBIs while scoring 40 runs this year. In May, he started the month hitting just .261 with 13 RBIs. He finished the month hitting .280 with 31 RBIs. Meanwhile, the two-way star has been dominant on the mound as well. In nine starts, he is 5-1 with a 0.82 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. He is off to the best start on the mound of his career, and could be running towards a Cy Young.

In May, he was dominant. He went 3-1 with a 1.08 ERA. He gave up just 11 hits over four starts. Further, he had two starts where he did not give up a run. This year, he has not given up more than two runs in a single start.

The Dodgers are currently 39-22 on the season, which is good for first place in the NL West. They are six games in front of the San Diego Padres in the division, but two games back of the Atlanta Braves for the best record in the majors. The Dodgers return to the diamond on Wednesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks with Ohtani on the mound.
