Guardians’ Steven Kwan drops ‘delusional’ NSFW admission on getting back on track after slump

The Cleveland Guardians are hot recently, with eight wins in their last 10 games. One reason for that resurgence is because of outfielder Steven Kwan. Kwan has his bat going again, and he is speaking out about what is going on.

“I tried to get myself to that delusion of, ‘I need to remember who the f— I am, all these things I do well,’ and just leave it there,” Kwan said, per The Athletic. “You start (off) delusional, and then you start poking holes in it, and you start deprecating again. You just have to be delusional and just let it ride.

“I don’t love that, because at the end of the day, you’re probably lying to yourself a little bit, and you’re not going to get much done doing that,” he added. “But there were tough days where it was like, ‘F—, how much longer is this going to keep going?’ And it’s like, ‘Shut the f— up. You can’t think like that.’”

Kwan has 14 hits in his last 31 at-bats. He is hitting at a .452 batting average over his last seven games. On the season, Kwan has a .275 batting average.

“Since July 1, Kwan leads the majors in on-base percentage, and the gap between him and the fourth-ranked player is equal to the gap between the fourth-ranked player and the 50th-ranked player,” The Athletic added.

The Guardians slugger is revealing more information about his playing philosophy.

“It’s understanding that every single day is a new day,” Kwan said. “I preach that. It’s just a long season.”

Kwan isn’t the only Guardians player having success right now. So is Jo Adell, who was traded to Cleveland from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline.

Cleveland is 69-68 on the year. The Guardians are currently second in the American League Central, behind the Chicago White Sox.

Cleveland is in action Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
