Orioles’ playoff push may receive crucial boost soon
The Baltimore Orioles are in the postseason picture despite their up and down season. Following Baltimore’s 2-1 win against the Colorado Rockies on Monday, the O’s are only a half-game back of an American League Wild Card spot. The Orioles recently claimed Luis Robert Jr. off waivers from the New York Mets in a move that could help their postseason push. The team could be receiving another boost soon, as right-handed reliever Felix Bautista is working his way back from shoulder surgery.
Bautista pitched in his third rehab assignment game on Sunday, according to MLB.com. He did not allow a run in the inning he pitched, and MLB.com reports that Bautista is expected to return at some point in September.
Of course, Baltimore is going to proceed with patience. Bautista has not pitched in an MLB game since the 2025 season. In 2025, the right-handed pitcher turned in a strong 2.60 ERA across 35 outings. He also recorded 19 saves.
The Orioles’ pitching could certainly use the boost. Bautista’s impact will be immense once he does return from injury. For now, he does not have a specific return date, but it seems as if Orioles fans may see Bautista back with the big league team fairly soon.
Overall, Baltimore is 69-69. The O’s are in fourth place in the American League East and 13.5 games back of first place. However, they trail the Cleveland Guardians by only a half-game for the third and final AL Wild Card spot. Reaching the postseason remains quite realistic for this ball club.
