Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith accused of $2.5 million investment scandal

The Dallas Cowboys had many years of glory, due in part to the play of legendary running back Emmitt Smith. Smith is now facing some rough news, as he has new legal issues. Smith is accused of being involved in a scandal involving a $2.5 million investment.

“Ex-NFL star Emmitt Smith is accused of cheating a Native American investor out of $2.5M. He (and) the other defendants allegedly used money meant to fund a Texas solar project to instead pay back a company that had previously invested in his ventures,” Front Office Sports reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Smith is being sued for fraud. The lawsuit centers around a company that Smith helped to create.

“Co-founded by Smith and businessman David Mosley, real estate and energy company 4 13 Solutions purportedly approached Kituwah LLC — a business group owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians — in early 2023 with a potential investment opportunity,” Courthouse News Service reported.

Kituwah argues that their group gave money to Smith’s company, and didn’t receive money in return that they were promised. The lawsuit seeks damages. Time will tell how this plays out in the coming months.

Smith won three Super Bowls during his many years in the NFL. His Super Bowls all came with the Cowboys. He also played for the Arizona Cardinals before he retired from football. He last played in the NFL in 2004.

Since his retirement from football, Smith stays involved with the Cowboys and the NFL. He is frequently a guest on national sports talk shows.
