Dodgers star Mookie Betts’ career-worst feat will concern fans
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the talk of MLB after acquiring Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline. However, on the diamond, they’re in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
Not helping their cause has been the play of shortstop Mookie Betts. With just 15 hits in his last 25 games, Betts has reached a new all-time career low, via Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
“Cubs/Dodgers starting up as Chicago goes for the sweep. Mookie Betts has 15 hits in his last 25 games, fewest in any 25 game span of his career,” Rogers wrote. “He said he’s trying to “restore that hope meter.”
Through his first 77 games in 2026, Betts is hitting .223 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs. Overall, it has been a down season for the shortstop, with his prolonged slump being the rotten cherry on top.
Still, the Dodgers are well aware of what Betts brings to the table. Over his seven years with the Dodgers, the shortstop has hit .273 with 165 home runs, 479 RBIs and 71 stolen bases. He has been named an All-Star four times and won three World Series titles with the franchise.
But for all that success and history, the Dodgers still need Betts to step up. Los Angeles will be the World Series favorites based on their current roster and 69-45 record. Still, they won’t wear the crown off of name value alone. They need their superstars to play like it.
And that includes Betts. No one is doubting his ability, but ultimately, he needs to produce when he is in the batter’s box. He and the Dodgers will be expecting a much stronger performance over his next 25 games.
