Dodgers could get pitching boost soon after Eric Lauer injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff took a small hit recently when they lost Eric Lauer to a left elbow injury. Despite losing Lauer, they are set to get another pitcher back from the injured list soon, as Kris Bubic is nearly back, according to MLB.com.

“Began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sept. 1 and could be a bullpen option down the stretch,” MLB.com wrote.

Bubic was 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA in nine starts with the Kansas City Royals. Then, they traded Bubic to the Dodgers at the MLB trade deadline. Bubic has not yet pitched for the Dodgers, but he is set to make his debut pretty soon. The Dodgers are currently 3rd in starting pitcher ERA and 11th in bullpen ERA. Yet, the injuries have taken their toll.

Along with Bubic, Roki Sasaki, Will Klein, Edwin Diaz, Gavin Stone, Bobby Miller, and Shohei Ohtani are all on the injured list. While the Dodgers acquired Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline, their pitching staff has struggled to stay healthy. Currently, Los Angeles fields Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow as their starters. But their relievers have not been consistent.

Bubic can be an effective reliever down the stretch. Even if Ohtani does not pitch again, the Dodgers can utilize any of their other pitchers as relief in a Best-of-5 or Best-of-7 series. The Dodgers have monitored Bubic’s recovery since they acquired him. Although he has dealt with numerous injuries over the past two years, he can help the boys in blue in the playoffs if he can make a full recovery.
