Did you know last time Knicks held NBA Finals lead was day of O.J. Simpson’s White Bronco chase?

After winning Game 1, the New York Knicks hold a 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals — this is the first lead in the series in over 30 years since O.J. Simpson’s white Bronco car chase.

The last time the Knicks held a lead in an NBA Finals series was during the 1994 series against the Houston Rockets. New York had a 3-2 lead in the series before ultimately losing in seven games.

Simpson’s white Bronco car chase took place on June 17, 1994. As BarryOnHere pointed out on X, formerly Twitter, that was the same date as New York’s last NBA Finals series. Hopefully for the Knicks, they can capitalize and build on their lead in the series.

The Knicks gained a 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals after beating the Spurs by 10 points in Game 1. They were down for a lot of the game, including facing a double-digit deficit in the third quarter.

However, if there is a will, there is a way, and Jalen Brunson personified that in his performance. He wasn’t always efficient, making 12 of 31 shots, but he led the game with 30 points. Most of his points came in the second half as he helped New York rally.

Going into Game 2, the Knicks have all of the momentum. The series will then head to the Big Apple for Games 3 and 4 on June 8 and 10, respectively.

New York entered the NBA Finals well-rested. They had over a week off since their last game because they swept the Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, the Spurs were coming off a hard-fought seven-game series against the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs in scoring, logging 26 points. However, he only made six of his 21 shots from the floor. 12 of his points came from his many trips to the free throw line.
