Dodgers’ Dave Roberts talks Chris Taylor’s enduring impact before first pitch vs. Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a special guest for their Wednesday night game against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Throwing the first pitch before the contest is former Los Angeles utility player Chris Taylor, who has made plenty of memories during his time with the Dodgers.

He will be adding another one, as he takes the mound for the ceremonial pitch for a game that also involves a franchise he once torched in a playoff game.

Of course, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is thrilled by Taylor’s return to Dodger Stadium.

“Yeah, that was a good night,” the Los Angeles skipper said when asked by Ava Brand of LA Sports Report for his thoughts on Taylor’s first-pitch duties, while referencing his former player’s postseason heroics (h/t Dodgers Nation).

In one of his defining moments as a big leaguer, Taylor hit a two-out, two-run, walk-off homer for the Dodgers against the Cards in a 2021 National League Wild Card game. In the same playoffs, he smacked three home runs in the National League Championship Series Game 5 versus the Atlanta Braves.

“It’s great. It’s good to see. It’s going to be good to see Chris. Chris was a very good Dodger. He was very fun to manage. Easy to manage. Baseball player. Hard-nosed. Does a lot of stuff off the field with his charity, with him and his wife, Mary. So to get him back here, seeing CT3 will be great. Hopefully we can get him to say a few words. But man, this guy had a lot of big hits for the Dodgers. Huge hits.”

During his time in Dodgers uniform, Taylor played 1,007 games and hit 250/.330/.431 with 108 home runs.
