Diamondbacks’ Corbin Burnes makes raw admission after injury setback
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been playing some really good baseball over the last few games. While they haven’t been as dominant as their peers in the NL West, they’ve been steadily humming along and waiting for their time to break out. They are also waiting for some of their key stars to make their season debut.
Star right-hander Corbin Burnes has not played a single inning for the Diamondbacks this season. The Arizona star is still recuperating from the Tommy John surgery he underwent a year ago. The current plan for Burnes is for him to return by September to help the team later in the year for their postseason push.
Burnes talked to the media today about how his rehab is going. The Diamondbacks star admitted that it’s been a rough ride for him, as he was supposed to start a rehab assignment in the minors tomorrow. However, due to the setback he suffered in his rehab, Burnes will need to ride the bench a little longer.
“I’m doing better today,” Burnes said, per Arizona Sports on X. “Obviously, the last couple days have been tough. Literally, tomorrow I was supposed to go out on rehab assignment. So, it’s tough to have put in work for 11 months and, you know, you’re a little over a month away from being back.”
Burnes said that his goal now is to just listen to the training staff to get him right on track for the Diamondbacks’ late-season push.
“I’m gonna push the envelope,” Burnes said. “That’s what I do, you know. I push the envelope to get back two months earlier from TJ, so whatever the timeline is, I’ll make sure it’s on the short end of that. But I just have to do what I can to get healthy and provide as much of an impact as I can.”
Burnes was acquired by the Diamondbacks during the 2025 offseason. He played in 11 games last season, posting a solid 2.66 ERA. However, after suffering an elbow injury in June last year, Burnes is yet to return to action.
