Cubs rumors: Jon Heyman calls Chicago top Tarik Skubal landing spot if Tigers trade him

With the Chicago Cubs on a 10-game losing streak, the baseball world could be thinking that the team could make a big move at the trade deadline to turn around the season. As rumors will surround the Cubs until the trade deadline, the one name that this MLB insider mentions as the team being a top landing spot is Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal.

The back-to-back AL Cy Young award-winner has been in immense trade rumors, with the Detroit pitcher being a top name in speculation, as Jon Heyman believes Chicago is a potential destination. Heyman would go as far as to say that the ball club is a “number one team” to trade for Skubal, especially since they have been “floated around” as being a franchise to land the star.

“So my number one team to trade for Skubal is the Cubs,” Heyman said, via Bleacher Report Walk-Off. “They’ve lost 10 in a row. We can get to all the Cubs’ issues in a little while, but certainly, the hitting is their number one issue. But they lost Cade Horton, obviously a number one pitcher, their number one pitcher, and there, that makes the most sense for a trade with Skubal. I’ve heard that they are team floated around a bit.”

There is a connection between the Cubs and the Tigers

There’s no denying that the Cubs’ landing Skubal would bring a major jolt to the team, especially after the injuries to the pitching staff like Matthew Boyd and Horton, as Heyman mentioned. Heyman also mentions the connection that Detroit’s Scott Harris has with Jed Hoyer in Chicago.

“Not going to say how much they’ve talked to the Tigers, but we do know that the GM of the Tigers, or baseball president of the Tigers, Scott Harris, used to be with the Cubs, so he certainly knows Jed Hoyer well, knows their system probably better than most, and their system is pretty good. So, the Cubs are my number one fit,” Heyman said.

It remains to be seen where Skubal ends up and if the Cubs will pursue the pitcher.
