Colts rumors: Where Anthony Richardson situation stands after Kenny Moore release

With the Indianapolis Colts releasing cornerback Kenny Moore, who had been with the team for the last nine seasons, people are still wondering about the situation with quarterback Anthony Richardson. As Richardson has reported to Colts’ camp, people are wondering if an end in that relationship is in sight, with this NFL insider giving an update on where everything stands.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Richardson obviously remains on the team, and both sides have “explored trade options,” though it appears none have been satisfactory with the quarterback working out with the team. Fowler would even mention how Richardson has “shown good progress.”

“While the Colts released corner Kenny Moore, quarterback Anthony Richardson — who also requested a trade — remains on the roster. Both player and team have explored trade options, but for now, he’s with the team working out and has shown good progress,” Fowler wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Richardson had requested a trade away from Indianapolis, likely to go to a better situation, but also to compete for a starting quarterback role. With the team finding success with Daniel Jones, the expectation was that Richardson was the backup option.

No update on a potential Colts trade involving Anthony Richardson

There is no denying how bumpy a road it has been for Richardson and his tenure with the Colts after getting picked by them with the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, coming out of the University of Florida. Showing flashes, but also displaying flaws and injuries getting in the way, a fresh start could be needed, though, after the team allowed Richardson to pursue a trade.

Nothing has been progressing on that front, especially with Richardson appearing at Indianapolis’ camp.

“Colts QB Anthony Richardson reported today for voluntary offseason workouts after staying home the past two weeks, per source. With the Colts seemingly no closer to trading him, as he requested, and with no indication they’ll release him, he’s back for the time being,” Stephen Holder wrote on X on Monday.

It remains to be seen if Richardson stays with the Colts or is dealt away.
