Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard accomplishes feat not seen since 2019-20 season
The Los Angeles Clippers earned their 41st win of the season on Tuesday after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 116-103 thanks to Kawhi Leonard’s 34 points. His performance turned out to be a big accomplishment, as Leonard reached a feat not seen since the 2019-20 campaign.
Tuesday’s game marked the 21st contest this season in which the 34-year-old recorded 30 or more points. 21 30-point games is the most Leonard has had in a single season since the 2019-20 season, which was his first year with the Clippers.
“Kawhi Leonard has recorded 30+ points in a game 21 times this season, after having only 4 all of last season,” said the ClutchPoints X account. “That is the most games he has recorded 30+ point games since 2019-20, his first season with the Clippers.”
The seven-time All-Star ended Tuesday’s game with 34 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. He also shot 57.8% from the field while hitting 60.0% of his three-point attempts. Leonard appeared to be in playoff form against the Mavericks in this one.
It’s been a solid campaign for Kawhi Leonard. He’s played in 63 games so far, averaging 28.1 points (career-high), 6.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per contest while shooting 50.6% from the floor and 38.9% from beyond the three-point line. If Leonard can continue playing like this in the postseason, then the Clippers could pull off a first-round upset in the NBA Playoffs.
With three games remaining in the regular season, including a matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, L.A. is set to participate in the play-in tournament. The playoffs are not guaranteed, as the Clippers will need Kawhi Leonard to continue playing at a high level.
