‘Cheat code’ Bob Myers hits 76ers with brutally honest assessment

The Philadelphia 76ers recently made headlines by hiring Mike Gansey to be their new president of basketball operations. This offseason, the 76ers’ front office has essentially been run by Bob Myers, who is the president of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, with the team firing Daryl Morey shortly after their playoff loss to the New York Knicks.

Recently, Gansey got 100% real on what it will be like working alongside Myers.

“I’m the day-to-day president of basketball operations…it’s just like every front office. [Myers] is an extension of ownership, essentially. We’re going to be in alignment throughout the organization…Having Bob is what I call a cheat code,” he said, per Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Meanwhile, Myers hit the 76ers with a harsh truth bomb about their current roster construction.

“We’ve got to find an identity, we just don’t have one,” he said, per Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports on X.

Indeed, the 76ers often seemed more like an intriguing collection of talent than a well thought-out team last season, which saw them rally from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Boston Celtics before getting annihilated by the Knicks in the following round.

Myers is well-known as the architect of the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty in the mid-2010s, and it remains to be seen how he will adjust to leading a team in an era where squads around the NBA are trying to catch up to the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and now apparently the Knicks.

Meanwhile, Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com noted on X that it’s “…Pretty clear Bob Myers will run the show and make the final call on all-time decisions.”

The 76ers will hope that Myers’ tenure goes more successfully than Morey’s.
