Charles Jourdain vs. Kyler Phillips prediction, odds, pick for UFC Winnipeg

The UFC Winnipeg Co-Main Event is finally here as Canada Life Centre reaches a fever pitch for this upcoming Bantamweight (135) Division tilt. Canada’s own Charles Jourdain will take on California’s Kyler Phillips in a potential ‘Fight of the Night’ candidate on the Main Card. Check our UFC odds series for the Jourdain-Phillips prediction and pick.

Charles Jourdain (17-8-1) has gone 8-7-1 inside the UFC since debuting in 2019. After consecutive losses, he’s posted back-to-back guillotine submission finishes over Victor Henry and David Grant, hoping to give Canadian fans another classic fight the only way he knows how. Jourdain stands 5-foot-9 with a 69-inch reach.

Kyler Phillips (12-4) has gone 6-3 since joining the UFC roster in 2020. After posting a three-fight winning streak of his own, Phillips is hoping to get back in the win column on the heels of back-to-back losses heading into this fight as the slight betting underdog. Phillips stands 5-foot-8 with a 72-inch reach.

UFC Winnipeg Odds: Charles Jourdain-Kyler Phillips Odds

Charles Jourdain: -148

Kyler Phillips: +124

Over 2.5 rounds: -188

Under 2.5 rounds: +145

Why Charles Jourdain Will Win

  • Last Fight: (W) Davey Grant – SUB (guillotine, R1)
  • Last 5: 3-2
  • Finishes: 8 KO/TKO, 7 SUB

Charles Jourdain has grown as a favorite in the eyes of Canadian fans, not always coming out on the winning side of things but always guaranteed to offer an entertaining effort with his well-rounded game. He’s grown fond of his guillotine submission as of late, earning consecutive performance bonuses while taking out his last two opponents. Watch for the guillotine attempts all night as he’ll look to become the first opponent to finish Phillips inside the distance.

Jourdain is also known for his high-volume striking and is more than confident throwing 200+ attempts over the course of three rounds. His opponent can also push a high striking pace, but Jourdain is more likely to grow stronger as the fight wears on as opposed to Phillips, who can fade at times following a strong start. Jourdain should look to constantly irritate Phillips with his double-jab while disrupting timing with his straight shots and hooks.

Jourdain should be willing to engage in a back-and-forth war and the crowd support by the Main Card should be palpable within the building. In many such cases, Jourdain has been able to withstand damage and be the more dangerous fighter through the later rounds, so expect nothing short of an electric performance out of him.

Why Kyler Phillips Will Win

  • Last Fight: (L) Vinicius Oliveira – U DEC
  • Last 5: 3-2
  • Finishes: 5 KO/TKO, 2 SUB

Kyler Phillips posted impressive wins throughout the division and was heralded as the heavy betting favorite throughout the majority of his fights. His last two losses have come as a bit of a shocker, especially considering his last loss came to another similar prospect in Vinicius Oliveira. Phillips boasts some of the cleanest striking this division has to offer, so he’s certainly hungry to get back in the win column and put the division on notice.

Phillips is extremely quick with his boxing hands and can snap leg kicks to all three levels with the same voracity. Notching five career wins by knockout and two submissions, he’s dangerous to end the fight from anywhere and will quickly jump at the opportunity if his opponent shows any weakness at all. Watch for the spinning attacks, both kicks and elbows, to be a consistent theme from Phillips during this fight.

Ultimately, Phillips has all the tools to face ranked opposition at bantamweight, but he’ll have to put things together on fight night and begin performing under the brightest lights. This fight in opposing territory should be a strong litmus test to see if he’s prepared to make the leap into ranked company inside the division.

Final Charles Jourdain-Kyler Phillips Prediction & Pick

This fight is my pick for ‘Fight of the Night’ as both fighters are easily capable of landing upwards of 200 strikes on the feet during this one. Neither side possesses fight-changing power, but they both have the speed and cardio to keep their output high during all three rounds.

Kyler Phillips is the slightly better athlete and has the wider array of skill sets to work with, but it’s hard to fade Charles Jourdain during this spot with the crowd support behind him. Phillips should be able to win this fight, but it’s tough to tell if he’s ready for the intensity of the moment.

For our final prediction, we’re going to side with Charles Jourdain in what should be an all-out brawl on the feet. Expect this fight to see the distance as both men are incredibly tough to put away, but the momentum inside the building should carry Charles Jourdain to the finish line in a close one.

Final Charles Jourdain-Kyler Phillips Prediction & Pick: Charles Jourdain (-148); OVER 2.5 Rounds (-188)
