Ketel Marte to address Diamondbacks about ongoing saga before Phillies series

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been embroiled in an off-field saga involving star infielder Ketel Marte. Marte did not show up to one of the team’s games against the Boston Red Sox recently. Since then, he has not played and was also placed on the injured list.

Much has been said about this situation. It’s clear that the Diamondbacks organization is frustrated and confused as to what’s going on. It appears that those who are looking for answers will have them soon.

“The plan is for Ketel Marte to address his teammates tomorrow afternoon when he arrives to the ballpark before the Diamondbacks begin a crucial home stand against the Philadelphia Phillies,” local radio host John Gambadoro reported on Sunday.

Marte is eligible to come off the injured list on Monday before taking on the Phillies. Whether he is activated and plays on Monday remains to be seen. However, it’s clear this is a contentious time for the Diamondbacks organization. It won’t be easy to mend fences, though manager Torey Lovullo will do his best to do so.

“It will be my job to make sure when Ketel gets back in that clubhouse it’s smoothed over, and then we get to playing baseball as soon as possible,” Lovullo told MLB Network Radio on Friday.

The Diamondbacks are still fighting for a playoff spot at this time. In fact, Arizona currently owns the final Wild Card spot in the National League. Adding Marte to this lineup certainly gives them a chance to cement their claim to this postseason spot. Only time will tell if the tense clubhouse situation can be mended during the season.
