Celtics rumors: Brian Windorst delivers bottom line on Jaylen Brown, Derrick White trade buzz

The Boston Celtics are a team that many don’t know will do this offseason, and there are several roads they can take. The obvious rumor floating around is a Jaylen Brown trade, but it doesn’t seem like he or Derrick White are on the block, according to Brian Windhorst.

“I’m going to tell you I have not actually heard any material, true discussions. I’m certain maybe someone has called on Jaylen Brown, maybe, but I have not heard one iota of Jaylen Brown truly being available or Derrick White being available,” Windhorst said on CLNS. “It is a proven commodity that Jaylen and Jayson and Derrick White are a championship trio. They’re under contract, and it’s big contracts, absolutely.

“It’s a lot of money and their flexibility is impacted by that, but Brad Stevens has shown very good player personnel. He’s repeatedly made very good player personnel moves, and I’m sure there’s a list of things that they’re looking at. When they emerge from this summer, they need to have more guys in their rotation that they can trust, especially the big man positions.”

In the Brown rumors, the idea is that they’d only trade Brown if they could get Giannis Antetokounmpo, but Windhorst hasn’t heard anything on that front as well.

“I have not heard that Boston is on Giannis’s list,” Windhorst said. “I have not heard that Giannis is prepared to sign the extension with Boston. Just because I haven’t heard doesn’t mean it’s not true. But until those two things are true, I don’t think it’s really something that’s in the world of reality.”

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported days ago that if the Celtics pursue Antetokounmpo, Brown would be on the move.

“It is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities for the Celtics to trade for Giannis, and if they do so, Brown would be the major roster piece they move as a result. All signs may point to Miami right now for Giannis, but do not count out the Celtics being involved in talks behind the scenes,” Siegel wrote.
