Celtics legend Paul Pierce drops Jaylen Brown All-NBA take, snubbing Luka Doncic

The Boston Celtics were recently surprised to learn that wing Jaylen Brown did not earn a first-team All-NBA selection. Brown was great all year for the Celtics, even garnering some fringe MVP consideration in the process, holding down the fort as Jayson Tatum missed most of the season.

Now, Celtics legend Paul Pierce has, perhaps unsurprisingly, shared his opinion that Brown should have been on the first team, and he even mentioned who he thought should have been removed.

“I thought he was in the MVP conversation. When you’re in the MVP conversation, you should be 1st Team… I would’ve probably removed Luka (Doncic) for Jaylen,” said Pierce, per the No Fouls Given show on X, formerly Twitter.

Clearly, Pierce’s hate for the Los Angeles Lakers is alive and well.

Doncic led the league in scoring this year for the Lakers and helped guide them to the third seed in the Western Conference, but unfortunately, an ill-timed injury kept him out of Los Angeles’ playoff run, which ended in a second round sweep against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Meanwhile, Brown was a two-way force for Boston in 2025-26, more than holding down the fort in Tatum’s absence, but his play dipped a bit in the Celtics’ shocking first round playoff loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, in which the team blew a 3-1 lead for the first time in franchise history.

Of course, there’s no wrong answer here, but some have wondered if the Celtics’ success this year was more of a result of the infrastructure put in place by head coach Joe Mazzulla, with Brown serving more as the head of the snake than a true engine.

Still, second-team All-NBA is nothing to sneeze at.
