Carmelo Anthony hits Mavericks’ Cooper Flagg with ‘no ceiling’ praise

On Monday, the Dallas Mavericks made headlines by hiring Masai Ujiri to lead their new front office regime. Ujiri was the architect of the 2019 Toronto Raptors championship team and will be joining a Dallas organization that is currently rebuilding around Cooper Flagg.

Although Dallas missed the playoffs in 2025-26, Flagg had an outstanding first season in the league, being rewarded for his efforts with the Rookie of the Year award.

Recently, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony hit Flagg with some epic praise when describing where the budding star can go from here.

“Coop’s ceiling is out of this world. You led your team in all those statistical categories as a rookie. You’re there… If he continues to dominate those categories like that, that success is going to continue to grow and grow and becoming a national success. He don’t have no ceiling,” said Anthony, per the 7pm in Brooklyn podcast, via Hoopshype.

Indeed, Flagg showed much to be excited about in his rookie season, while still having plenty of room to grow. The former number one overall draft pick’s combination of size, athleticism, and playmaking instincts have already made him a force both in transition and in the halfcourt, and he’s also already turned himself into a strong shotblocker at the NBA level.

If his three-point shot can come along for the ride next year and beyond, Flagg can quickly turn himself into an All-Star level player, and potentially even better than that.

Meanwhile, Ujiri will be tasked with putting together a formidable team around Flagg, and the Mavericks will be hoping for some more good luck for the second straight year when the NBA lottery gets underway on May 10 from Chicago.
