Cardinals’ Carson Beck posts insane numbers in near-perfect NFL preseason debut

Despite the wide attention, Carson Beck was unfazed in his preseason debut on Thursday. The Arizona Cardinals faced the Carolina Panthers for the Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, and Beck looked like a future cornerstone.

The rookie quarterback was taken out in the fourth quarter, with the Cardinals and Panthers having a nip-and-tuck affair.

The 24-year-old Beck ended with impressive numbers, and they easily could have been higher, as pointed out by AZCardinals.com’s Darren Urban.

“Carson Beck finishes 15-19, 188 yards, and a TD (and his last pass was in Reggie Virgil’s hands before Isaiah Simmons knocked it loose. Would’ve gained 35 or so),” wrote Urban on X.

Despite being a two-time national champion at Georgia and leading Miami to the title game in 2025, Beck fell into the third round of the NFL Draft, with the Cardinals picking him at No. 65.

There were concerns about Beck’s struggles under pressure, costly turnovers, and physical limitations following an elbow injury. His introverted demeanor was also a red flag. Still, he clearly has the talent level to be an impactful player in the NFL.

He is unlikely to start, with Jacoby Brissett looking like a lock under center. But Beck should stay ready to take over when his number gets called. He will also battle Gardner Minshew II for backup minutes.

As of writing, Arizona is trailing Carolina by four points, 27-23, with two minutes left in the final quarter.

The Cardinals will continue their preseason schedule on August 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
