Rams’ Sean McVay drops truth bomb on ‘different’ Aaron Donald standards amid return rumors

Since the Los Angeles Rams acquired Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, fans have been urging Aaron Donald to come out of retirement. A defensive duo of Garrett and Donald would be phenomenal for the Rams and terrifying for opponents.

But of course, Donald would have to shake off the rust, as he has not played since 2024. He decided to hang up his cleats to focus on his family, adding that he felt he had nothing to prove anymore on the gridiron.

But with the arrival of Garrett, the 35-year-old Donald, who had a workout with the Rams on Tuesday, appears to be seriously considering a comeback.

When asked about it, Rams coach Sean McVay sounded cautiously optimistic, as reported by ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry.

“Sean McVay on any benchmark Aaron Donald may have set to determine whether to return: ‘Do it the way he’s accustomed to. And his standards are different,'” wrote Thiry on X.

Donald is widely regarded as the best defender in team history. He helped the Rams win the Super Bowl in 2022. He is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, an eight-time All-Pro First Team, and a 10-time Pro Bowler.

Donald is aware of the clamor of the fans for him to return to Los Angeles, but of course, it is not an easy decision. But he has stayed in shape, even sometimes posting his workout routine on Instagram.

In a different interview, McVay noted that Donald is “feeling good.”

“But we’re not to where we are able to say whether or not he is or isn’t ready to do it. But he’s doing great, and he looked outstanding (in Tuesday’s workout), as I think all of us would expect,” said McVay.
