Capitals’ Cole Hutson nails hole-in-one ahead of highly-anticipated rookie season

The Washington Capitals had a wonderful offseason, bringing in multiple solid players to bolster the lineup. Meanwhile, the Caps have multiple young prospects ready to burst onto the NHL scene. One of those young players is Cole Hutson, who made his NHL debut last season but will still be entering his rookie campaign.

As Hutson prepares for his first full NHL season, he took to the golf course, playing at Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida. During his round, Hutson nailed a hole-in-one.

Hutson will be looking for more success than a hole-in-one this upcoming season, in his highly anticipated first full campaign. He was the 43rd overall selection of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals, after playing two seasons with the U.S. National Development Team. He would then play two seasons for Boston University. In his two campaigns, he found the back of the net 24 times while adding 56 assists. He was named an AHCA East First Team All-American both years.

After the Boston University ended, Hutson signed his entry-level contract with the Capitals, making his NHL debut on March 18. He would score his first NHL goal in that game against the Ottawa Senators. Overall, he played in 14 contests, scoring three times with seven helpers.

Now, Hutson is looking to put up the same type of campaign as his brother Cole Hutson did with the Montreal Canadiens in 2024-25. The elder Hutson scored six goals while adding 60 assists, helping the Canadiens make the playoffs, and winning the Calder Memorial Trophy.

According to the odds provided by DraftKings, the younger Huston is tied for third in odds to win the 2026-27 Calder Trophy. The favorite is Porter Martone of the Philadelphia Phillies, who also made his NHL debut last season. Ivar Stenberg, the second overall selection by the San Jose Sharks, sits second.  Anton Frondell of the Chicago Blackhawks is tied with Hutson. Still, top overall pick Gavin McKenna has yet to be listed on the odds board.
