Shakur Stevenson hails Floyd Mayweather for generous gesture as pair train together

Shakur Stevenson has had the help of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in recent training sessions.

Stevenson has yet to put pen to paper on his next fight after beating Teofimo Lopez to become a three-weight world champion.

The pound-for-pound ranked star has signed with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing and has teased news that an announcement is imminent.

Nonetheless, the Newark native has been training hard in anticipation of an opponent being arranged soon.

Incredibly, he has had the help of retired 50-0 boxing legend Mayweather in recent days.

Stevenson has been posting footage of the pair working together, with Mayweather using his wisdom to coach him on his already magnificent skills.

‘Money’ was overheard giving the rising superstar advice, and even dropped hints that his opponent was physically ‘stronger’ than him.

Clearly the 29-year-old is delighted to have such experience around him at the gym.

And he paid tribute to the generational great on social media.

He wrote: “Shout out to Floyd Mayweather for giving back to the next generation.

“He hasn’t made one dollar with me but he extended his hand and gave me the game.

“Legend inside and outside the ring.”

For Stevenson it is the perfect operator to learn from, given there is natural similarities in their styles.

Both technically world class, it is clear Mayweather keen to help the champion step up and take the mantle from him as the sport’s biggest superstar.

Who could Stevenson fight next?

A number of options could crop up for Stevenson, having more than likely lost out on a catchweight clash with Devin Haney.

Given Mayweather’s presence in Stevenson’s camp, fan speculation has fuelled that he could face legend Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao and Mayweather were set to rematch but their bout collapsed.

And given Stevenson’s presence in the US market, he could make a natural replacement.
